Tip: You can keep just about any guy in a little bottle on your bookshelf

NOT dudes though, dudes are semi-aquatic and need active tides for surfing or they turn into incels

If you have a proper little gentleman he can be free range indoors unless you have a teacup dragon (they are natural competitors for an ecological niche and don’t get along)

It’s illegal to keep A Man in your house (that’s kidnapping)

Hey what about a strange little fellow?

A strange little fellow belongs on the moors, howling with the winds and roaming about (free-range), but in a pinch, they can BRIEFLY occupy an attic or laboratory

This is the rule making and information rich content that I come on this site for

FYI if your employer does this, if they have done it for a long time especially, you and your coworkers could be owed huge amounts of unpaid wages and it would be an easy suit if there is a paper trail like this and your employer is placing strict requirements on your behavior while not at work. Employment lawyers generally work on contingency. Just food for thought.

I saw a post in the My Adventures with Superman tag claiming that Lois “finally” has a character. I really like the show and it’s version of Lois too, but I want to make this clear: Lois Lane has been around for over 80 years and she’s always been a distinct, dynamic character with a lot going for her, every bit as admirable as Superman. This isn’t a new thing!

Like any character Lois has had some bad adaptations, but she’s been a great character from the beginning, and I wanted to show off some panels from comics over the years so anyone new to Superman lore can see why she’s a beloved character and the MAWS portrayal is building on that, not starting from scratch.

image

Lois in the golden age comics (1939 through the 1940’s) was shown to be a career-driven woman who didn’t take shit from anyone. This was an era where a lot of women were entering the workforce because men were serving in WWII and there was excitement and change in the air, and Lois was meant to be a reflection of that. She fought against the sexism of her boss sticking her with the advice and gossip columns because she was a woman, and she was go-getting reporter out to get a real story. From the beginning she was fearless (sometimes reckless), driven, and had no patience for Clark Kent’s (feigned) cowardice (and was always full of sick burns). She never let anyone push her around.

image
image

And she’s been pretty consistently like this her entire run as a character. Of course, there were some bad writers, and there was a time in the 50s when all female characters had to be marriage obsessed (Lois wasn’t the only one hit with this, Wonder Woman was too), but she reverted back to her firebrand self in the 60’s and 70’s, and when the 80’s came along, characters started getting more filled in backstories, including her- this was where we started seeing stuff about her home life, her childhood moving around as a military brat, and her troubled relationship with her father and sister. She had an interior life, inner conflict- and she still kicked ass and always got the last word in. As someone invested in journalism, she is THE coolest fictional journalist to me.

This was also when comics started focusing on Clark being who Superman WAS rather than a pure act, and we got to see their relationship really grow and Lois fall for Clark, not Superman. So here, have some panels of Lois being great and see the scope of her own personality.

image
image
image

Lois also has lots fun little quirks and hobbies comics readers know about- she takes her coffee a certain way, she doesn’t cook much because she’s so on the go (so Clark is the one who cooks in the fam), she likes to sit on Clark’s desk when they’re talking (this happens in other Superman media too), she REALLY likes monster trucks and Clark REALLY doesn’t but will support her anyway:

image

Also, she’s always seen through to who Clark really is:

image

Anyway. Have more of my favorite Lois panels because I have a lot:

image

Adding my own because it was why I originally went with journalism for my major. Lois is one of the coolest comic book characters around and I won’t stand for this libel either.

fresh, clean no-terf version for reblogs!

Your mom and aunts aren’t on tumblr.  Please warn them about this as well.

[Image description: Two smartphone screenshots of a Facebook post by a person named Sheila Toll posted 2 Sep. It is black text on a white background and the post is public. The post reads:

I am a Family Doctor and I want to keep a promise made to a patient.

Julie was a healthy, post-menopausal woman in my care who came in for a periodic health examination. One of my routine questions, in what is called the “Review of Systems”, was to ask if she had experienced any vaginal bleeding.

She said “No” but then laughed and added, “Other than when my period came back for a few months last year”.

All health care professional are taught early on that ‘vaginal bleeding in a post-menopausal woman is Cancer of the Uterus until proven otherwise’. This comment by Julie was, therefore, a red flag (no pun intended) prompting further questions, an examination and an ultrasound of her pelvis.

Julie was surprised to see me so concerned, especially since the symptoms had not recurred over many months.

Sure enough, a pelvic ultrasound and tissue sampling confirmed Cancer of the Uterus.

Julie underwent a hysterectomy and radiation therapy. She is now healthy, cancer-free and is expected to stay that way.

After all this was done, Julie sat ME down for a talk. She told me she’d had no idea a ‘short return’ of her period after menopause was a danger signal. Furthermore, she addressed the topic with friends over coffee and discovered that, out of 20 women, NONE of them knew this symptom was abnormal! She admonished me to “Tell women this! Don’t assume we know it!”

From that day on, I have kept Julie’s advice in mind when talking with post-menopausal patients. But recently my wife suggested that I should take this to a wider audience.

So, Julie, this is for you:

If you are a post-menopausal woman and your period ‘comes back’ or you have even one episode of vaginal bleeding, TELL A HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL and insist on having it investigated!

Wishing you all good health and long lives. End image description.]

companies really have got to be okay with stagnant profits. what is wrong with earning the same amount every year? why does it always have to be more? it’s not sustainable. there are only so many people on the planet you can profit from 😭

This is the thing. If there are only so many people they can profit from, and they demand to see profits go up every year, they will have to steal more out of the pockets of the little people each year, either by paying less, or by charging more. And that is the problem. Because that is exactly what is happening. And the rich get richer. And the poor are getting so poor that it is coming to a crisis point. They seem to have forgotten what happens at the crisis point though: people who have nothing to lose, will rise up and fight.

Cancer: a malignant tumor of potentially unlimited growth that expands locally by invasion and systemically (Merriam Webster)

See also: Capitalism

But also, “increasing profits every quarter” is a relatively recent thing. It’s new since the 1980s! In the 1980s, Reagan heavily promoted the economic theories connected with the Chicago school of economics. (“Reaganomics” is basically the Chicago school ideas dumbed down to fit in soundbites.) The Chicago school is, among other things, responsible for such wonders as “all regulation in the marketplace is always bad” “monopoly is good because it’s efficient” and “trickle-down economics.” When those ideas became mainstream, and were adopted wholeheartedly by Wall Street, they spawned the idea that the most important measure of a company was its stock increasing in value. Not how much business it was doing, not how well its customers liked and valued it, not how stable it was for the long-term. Is its stock increasing is the only measure of value.

Prior to that point, a business–even large corporations!–were valued more on how reliable they are. If I invest in this business, will it still be there five, ten, fifteen, twenty years from now? Businesses were good if they were profitable and stable. Increasing profits was wonderful! But they understood that that is not infinitely sustainable, and that if you wanted to maximize long-term profits for individual investors and for the economy as a whole, you did not want flash-in-the-pan trendiness, and you didn’t want a business cannibalizing itself, you wanted a business that was stable and took good care of its customers so they’d keep coming back.

Hey when you move out on your own the most important food tip I can give you is “maybe you don’t hate x maybe your guardians just cooked it wrong”

The number of foods I have learned I really like if they’re Fucking Seasoned

The number of foods I’ve introduced friends to that they warned me they’d always hated til I let them try a piece of mine

Also marinade things for 24 hours the second you have your own fridge it is a GAME CHANGER you thought you knew food but you have never met her

Oh absolutely

Steamed diced carrots? Hell no

Seared and peppered carrot spears with bell pepper slices and then with a little bit of butter drizzle? I suddenly love carrots and I’m also eating a SECOND vegetable, its a fucking miracle

Oooh yes also every squash EVER tastes 90% better if you roast it with garlic and roasted red pepper seasoning and just a tiny drizzle of honey

-I am slowly learning that pork chops can be prepared in ways that aren’t ‘super dry and overcooked.’

-Almost any veg tastes amazing roasted with olive oil, salt, and pepper!

-There are SO many amazing ways to prepare pasta, like holy crap.

-Learning to skillfully apply your spice cabinet to a dish will elevate literally every food you eat.

what’s the most demented thing you guys got in trouble for in school mine was when an english boy in my class made fun of my name and called my mum a (derogatory word for irish travellers) so i told him my ira uncle was in town and was coming to blow him up after school

mine was when I was in grade 3 we had little whiteboards and when we were separated into reading levels the 4 of us in my reading level were messing around with ours, since we had time and the teachers were elsewhere. I drew little Pac-Men on mine and this kid drew this shitty triangular penis between them and was like “they’re having sex” and I was like “what” and the teacher saw this and got us all in trouble.

she was like “who did this” and I was like “yeah it was Luke he drew that” and the other three kids in my reading level were horrified that I would say such a thing and insisted it was all of us and all of us were drawing Pac-Man porn. This is how I got my first and only suspension ever and also how I learned that neurotypical children would rather literally be suspended and thought of as sexual deviants at age 8 than they would gain the mantle of dibber-dobber.

Fuck you Luke and also Kaylani and I don’t remember the third person in that group. I was 8 and I know I didn’t draw the pac man sex

Barbie moving back or just not feeling it when Ken tries to kiss her on multiple occasions. That right there. That’s when I felt so seen.

And throughout the entire movie, I was just dreading the moment where she’ll have to step back and realize that she’s had feelings for him this whole time ugh and that she’ll go back and they’ll live happily fucking ever after again ugh

But there was none of that. Just Barbie being her own self without a man, without a romantic relationship.

That right there. That gutted me because that’s been me my entire life and I thought that there was something wrong with me for not wanting a boyfriend and romance in the real world, fictionally it’s a whole other thing but this right here rung so so true to me because it felt so real and it felt like a healing salve to that ache society caused in me.

I think sometimes people forget that the gov is the corporations’ bitch, not the other way round.

This has made the city go “wait, it sucks that we can’t punish corporations who do this”, though:

Los Angeles City Controller Kenneth Mejia tweeted Friday that StreetsLA would be fining Universal Studios $250 for trimming trees without a city permit. He also said that “outdated laws limit fine amounts and aren’t equitable across offenders, especially big corporations” and that he will recommend these laws be reevaluated.
